Crimes Nearby: DWI Charge After Near Miss With Cop Car

Riverside man accused of biting and robbing another man; and were two men were charged with ecstasy possession in Hampton Bays.

Crimes and suspicious incidents recently reported elsewhere on the East End:

EAST HAMPTON

• Fausto L. Peralta, 34, of East Hampton, was also arrested on an aggravated DWI charge this weekend after almost causing an accident with a police unit. On Sunday at about 8 p.m., police said they had to slam on the brakes and swerve out of the way when Peralta's 2002 Isuzu Rodeo nearly turned into the squad car. He was pulled over on Claremont Street, near Harbor Boulevard, in Springs. He appeared drunk and was arrested. The next day, he was released on $500 bail.

• Clever A. Sinche, 35, of Corona, was charged with aggravated DWI with a child in the car, a felony under Leandra's Law, and acting in a manner injurious to a child under 17, a misdemeanor, in Springs on Monday at about 1:30 a.m. A police officer, parked on Springs Fireplace Road, near Fort Pond Blvd, observed a Dodge pick-up truck swerving. He was pulled over just north of Hog Creek Road. There were three additional passengers in the back seat, including a child. Empty Coors Light cans of beer were found inside the truck. Sinche performed poorly on all field sobriety tests and was taken into custody. He consented to have his blood drawn. He was released on $2,500 bail following bail.

• Therese M. Jarmin, 43, of Montauk, was arrested on an aggravated DWI charge after an accident at the intersection of Montauk Highway and Lincoln Road in Montauk on Monday at about 6 p.m. Jarmin was still sitting in her car when police arrived and had no apparent injuries. She appeared drunk, police said, and performed poorly on field sobriety tests. She was released on $1,500 bail. Her car was impounded due to a prior DWI conviction.

RIVERHEAD

• James Licausi, 43, of Riverside, was charged with third-degree robbery, a D-felony, in Riverside at 5:18 p.m. on Sept. 2 on County Road 104. Police reported that Licausi had struck a man in the face the day before at 5:50 a.m. on Vail Avenue in Riverside, bit his left arm and then forcibly removed the victim's wallet and fled the area on a bicycle.

• A woman allegedly swiped a Kmart shopper's purse, which included cash and a debit card — and then used the card around town. According to Suffolk County Crime Stoppers and detectives from the Riverhead police department, authorities are seeking the public’s help to identify and locate the individual who allegedly stole a purse belonging to a woman who was shopping at K-Mart on Route 58 in Riverhead on March 12, at approximately 2:35 p.m. Later that day, an unknown woman allegedly used the debit card illegally to purchase merchandise in several stores in Riverhead and Hampton Bays, police said. The shopper later discovered that her pocketbook was missing. The purse was subsequently found and returned to the owner, with the debit card and $164 in cash missing.

• Riverhead Town police and Suffolk County Crime Stoppers are seeking the public’s help to identify and locate the person who tried to pry open the night deposit box at a local bank in Riverhead on Saturday. According to authorities, an unknown suspect entered the rear parking lot of the Suffolk County National Bank, located at 1201 Ostrander Avenue in Riverhead on Saturday at approximately 11:15 p.m. The subject allegedly approached the night time deposit box and, using a crow bar, tried to pry it open. The box, which was valued at approximately $8,000, was damaged during the incident.

WESTHAMPTON-HAMPTON BAYS

• Two men were arrested in Hampton Bays on Sept. 2 on felony and misdemeanor drug possession charges.

Police said Blake Abbondandolo, 26, and Brian Diaz, 27, both of Huntington, were found to be in possession of a quantity of ecstasy pills after the vehicle they were traveling in was pulled over on Dune Road at 6:22 p.m.

Officers said they observed Abbondandolo and Diaz "acting in a suspicious manner" and during an investigation they noticed the passengers attempting to hide an item in the car's gas cap, which turned out to be a quantity of the drug ecstasy.

Both men were charged with one count each of criminal possession of a controlled substance fifth degree, a D-felony and criminal possession of a controlled substance seventh degree, a misdemeanor.

NORTH FORK

• The Detective Division is investigating a stabbing that took place on Sunday at 4 a.m. on the corner of Washington Avenue and Middleton Road in Greenport, police said. A 23-year-old male Hispanic subject was stabbed once to the abdomen by an unknown subject and then transported himself to where he was treated, police said. There is no further information available at this time.
