Crimes Nearby: Duo Charged With Stealing Gifts Off Doorsteps

Also this week, a Bridgehampton man reportedly held a knife to another man's throat.

• On Dec. 16 at 8:30 p.m. Quogue Police say they charged Nicholas Smith, 31, of Oneida, N.Y. with DWI, a misdemeanor, after he crossed over the double yellow line on Montauk Highway and nearly struck a westbound cop car with his red, Dodge Durango.

Police said the officer, as well as a number of cars were forced to swerve to avoid Smith, who was also charged with reckless driving, unsafe lane change and refusing a pre-screen test.

RIVERHEAD

• Sticky-fingered Christmas gift thieves have gotten caught in the act, according to Riverhead Town police.

Riverhead Town police said they received several reports of UPS packages being removed from the front porches of homes in the Wading River area.

One of the thefts, police said, was captured on a home surveillance system and handed over to the police department. The video, police said, led to the identification of two suspects, who were arrested on Tuesday.

Police said Lillian Kirchberger, 42, of Mattituck, and Teresa Doige, 42, both of whom lived in the same residence in Eastward Court, were arrested; each woman was charged with three counts of petit larceny.

• A Calverton man was stabbed by an unknown assailant on Dec. 17 around 11:30 p.m. shortly after leaving a Mattituck convenience store, and the suspect is still at large, Southold Town Police report.

The victim was walking to his vehicle which was parked in the Mattituck Shopping Plaza off of Route 25, when he was approached by a subject who demanded money, police said. The victim refused to comply and was cut once under the left arm, and he reported to police that witnesses observed the altercation and shouted at the attacker, who then fled the scene. The witnesses have not come forward.

NORTH FORK

•  Paris Parks, 20, of Greenport, was charged with assault and unlawful possession of marijuana on Dec. 15 after police responded to a report of two men being assaulted outside of a Greenport restaurant, police said. The two men were transported to Eastern Long Island Hospital for treatment to injuries while police located Parks, who was questioned about the incident and was found to be in possession of a small amount of marijuana, police said.

EAST HAMPTON

• A Bridgehampton man is being held at the Suffolk County jail in Riverside on assault and menacing charges following his arrest on Saturday morning.
Gregorio Colin-Martinez, who is 21, allegedly cut a man's hand with a knife at a residence on Muir Boulevard in East Hampton on Saturday at about 5:50 a.m.
According to police, they were called to the house for a disturbance after Colin-Martinez held a masonry knife against the victim's throat while making demands. The victim attempted to flee, but the defendant grabbed him and "sliced" his right hand, police said. Colin-Martinez then ran from the house towards Springs Fireplace Road.
