• Someone broke into a woman’s vehicle on Canal Street and made off with more than $1,400 in clothing and electronics sometime between Nov. 30 and Dec. 1. According to police, they received a 911 call from the victim who stated that when she went out to get her newspaper on Dec. 1 she noticed her pocketbook was laying in the driveway, not inside her unlocked 2003 Toyota Camry where she had left it. The woman went over to her car and noticed a number of items had been stolen from it, including two iPads, a Garmin GPS, Massey boots, a power tool and a child’s maroon winter jacket, totalling $1,445 in value.

When neighbors were notified of the crime, they went out to their own vehicles to secure their items. Two other victims discovered their vehicles had been broken into as well.

In the first case, a neighbor on Canal Street discovered that his Garmin GPS and his satellite radio had been stolen out of his Chevy Corvette, which was parked in his driveway. In the second instance, a resident on nearby Gate Street had his car broken into and a Garmin GPS, a car charger, a plug-in charger and a dollar bill stolen. When police investigated they found the Garmin and the car charger laying at the apron of his driveway. The items were returned to the owner after detectives photographed the scene for evidence. The investigation is ongoing.
