Crimes Nearby: Brawlers Pepper Sprayed Outside Bowling Alley

A round-up of recent notable arrests and incidents on the East End:

EAST HAMPTON

• After responding to a fight outside of East Hampton Bowl at 3 a.m. on Dec. 31, East Hampton Village police used pepper spray and a stun gun to gain control of brawlers. Chief Jerry Larsen said approximately 40 people were actively fighting in the parking lot and that it spilled out onto the street. He said officers estimated about 75 people were in the parking lot at the time. The bowling alley's lounge had been rented for a record release party for a local rapper.

• Diego P. Ordonez-Contreras, 28, of East Hampton, was arrested in Springs on New Year's Day after they came across a 1998 Honda on the front lawn of a house on Springs Fireplace Road wedged between a tree and a split rail fence at about 4:30 a.m. The driver was attempting to maneuver the car from the position. Police said he appeared drunk and they saw an open container of Corona beer within reach of him. They also found a marijuana cigar and a prescription pill container containing what later tested positive for marijuana on the floor board near his feet. He was arrested on a misdemeanor DWI charge at 4:53 a.m. East Hampton Town Justice Lisa R. Rana released him on $500 bail.

• Cameron L. Greenbaum, 23, of East Hampton, was arrested and charged with possession of a hypodermic instrument, a misdemeanor, during a traffic stop on Tub Oarsman Road in East Hampton on Dec. 24. While the driver, James Rivera, 34, of Bridgehampton, attempted to retrieve his driver's license from a back pack, police saw a plastic bag with three pills inside. Greenbaum was asked to step out of the car and they patted him down for weapons, when they came across a hard metal object in his jacket pocket. It turned out to be a needle. Meanwhile, Rivera was charged with driving with a suspended license. Both men were released on appearance tickets. The drug found turned out to be Trazodone, a drug not subject to the controlled substance act.- Show quoted text

WESTHAMPTON-HAMPTON BAYS

• Southampton police reported that they chased a 30-year-old East Quogue man through Hampton Bays on New Year's eve. Police said when they attempted to stop Andrew McCavanagh for failing to signal a left turn at Squires Avenue in Hampton Bays, McCavanagh fled in his car, reaching 80 miles an hour. Police said they apprehended McCavanagh at the intersection of Broad Hollow Road and Fairview Avenue. He was charged with DWI, aggravated DWI and unlawfully fleeing an officer.

• A Farmingville man was arrested in Hampton Bays for DWI on Sunday at 1:51 a.m. Police say Charles Carter, 31, was driving on Springville Road when they stopped him for a traffic infraction. Upon investigation, they found that he smelled of alcohol. He was charged with first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, a felony; driving while intoxicated and driving with intoxicated by alcohol with blood alcohol content of .08, both misdemeanors, and no plate lamp, a violation.

RIVERHEAD

• A Sag Harbor resident was arrested on charges of DWI on Flanders Road on New Year's Eve. According to Southampton Police, Judy Clempner, 57, was found unresponsive behind the wheel of a 2002 gray Honda in a no standing zone. Police said she had in the car an open bottle of white wine.

• Ronnie Meyers, 42 of Riverhead, was arrested on Sunday at 2:38 a.m. on DWI charges on County Road 105. Meyers, police said, was stopped for failing to maintain his lane. He was charged with driving intoxicated with a BAC of .08, DWI and refusal to submit to an alert test. He was also charged with moving from a lane unsafely and having no plate lamp.

• Melissa Romano, 18, of Lido Beach, was charged with DWI on New Year's Eve. According to police, she was stopped at the Peconic Avenue traffic circle for tailgating. She was charged with DWI and following too closely.

NORTH FORK

• Michael Gambardella, 18, of Garden City, was charged with DWI after an early morning New Year's day car accident in Greenport. Gambardella was driving a Honda CR-V SUV on Front Street around 8 a.m. on Jan. 1 when he hit a tree and a sign post and rolled the vehicle onto the front yard of a house located next to the Hotel, police said. Gambardella told police he had fallen asleep and was taken by members to for a check up. After investigation, police said Gambardella, who was not injured, was found to be intoxicated and was arrested and released on his own recognizance after his arraignment that afternoon.

• Enver Zorluoglu, 34, of Cedar Drive in Southold, was charged with driving while intoxicated, leaving the scene of an accident, and driving with a suspended license, no registration and no insurance on Dec. 31 at 8:34 p.m in Cutchogue. Zorluoglu was involved in an accident at the corner of Route 25 and Depot Lane in Cutchogue, which left his vehicle with only three wheels after a driver's side tire came off the vehicle, police said. Zorluoglu then left the scene, driving half a mile on three wheels, parking the car between two commercial buildings on Eugene's Road and then fleeing on foot, police said. Police apprehended the defendant a short time later, locating him underneath a tractor trailer. He was reportedly found to be intoxicated, arrested and transported to police headquarters in Peconic, where he was processed and held for arraignment.

• Alexis Griffin, 28, of Orient, was charged with DWI on Dec. 26 at 11:12 p.m. after police stopped her for driving down the wrong way of North Street in Greenport, police said. After investigation, Griffin was found to be intoxicated, police said. She was processed and held at police headquarters pending arraignment.
