Crimes Nearby: Caregiver at Home for Disabled Arrested Again

A round-up of recent notable arrests and incidents from other areas on the East End:

RIVERHEAD

About two weeks after her , Nicole Leggon faces another charge related to her work as manager of a group home in Riverhead, according to Southampton Town police. Police said Leggon, 28, of Riverhead cashed and pocketed a $170 payroll check at the on West Second Street in Riverhead on June 30. The check belonged to a disabled resident at the in Riverhead, according to a police report. At the time of the incident Leggon was employed as the house manager and caregiver, according to police. She is currently unemployed. Officers charged her with petty larceny, a misdemeanor, on Oct. 27.

Two Riverhead men were arrested in Flanders Friday after detectives allegedly discovered them trying to steal a jukebox and other items from a garage. Police said they received a call about two men loading a pickup truck with items from a Maple Avenue garage on Oct. 28 at around 3:45 p.m. When they arrived at the scene they spotted Jerome Trent, 56, and Jonathan Downing, 48, both of Riverhead, putting a jukebox and other metal items in the truck, according to a police report. The men told police they were helping clean up the property, police said. Town detectives said they discovered the men actually intended to take the items to a scrap yard for money. Trent and Downing were arrested and each charged with third-degree burglary, a felony.

WESTHAMPTON-HAMPTON BAYS

Craig Oudeans, 42, of East Quogue was arrested Saturday at 3 a.m. on West Side Avenue in East Quogue and charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief, a misdemeanor. Oudeans kicked in the front door of a home, damaging it and its jamb, police said.

Osbeli Salazar, 35, of Southampton was arrested Friday at 2:53 p.m. at the corner of Montauk Highway and Victoria Road in Hampton Bays and charged with DWI and unlicensed operator, both misdemeanors. Police said Salazar was stopped for leaving the scene of a minor accident when they discovered he appeared intoxicated.

A 54-year-old man from the Bronx arrived at his Hampton Bays home, on Grant Boulevard, Saturday at 3 p.m. and discovered a small pile of vomit on his couch and household items scattered throughout the residence. Small footprints were found around the windows and doors, and two chimney flues on the roof were uncapped. Police determined that a raccoon had most likely entered the home, which had last been secured Oct. 19.

EAST HAMPTON

Matthew J. McGuire, 21, of East Hampton, was charged with DWI, a misdemeanor, on Saturday at about 3:40 a.m. Police pulled him over in a Chevy pickup truck on Route 114, near Mane Lane, after he was driving in the shoulder, almost off the roadway, kicking up rocks and debris while passing through an intersection. As the vehicle headed toward East Hampton Village, police said he swerved several more times. He appeared drunk and refused to take a blood alcohol test. He reportedly told police, "I'm gonna be over if I blow into that thing." He was arrested and refused to take a breath test at police headquarters. East Hampton Town Justice Catherine A. Cahill arraigned him the following day, releasing him on $350 bail.

Dedrick T. Malone, 25, of East Hampton, was arrested on a DWI charge on Sunday at about 3:30 a.m. Police said they saw Malone driving a 2004 Acura on Montauk Highway, near Abraham's Path, and swerve into the shoulder and over the double-yellow lines several times. When he was stopped on Pantigo Road, near Amy's Lane, he appeared drunk. "When asked to produce his driver's license, he had a delayed response and then very slowly began to look through his pockets," police said in his arrest report. At headquarters, he refused to submit to a breath test. Justice Cahill released him on $500 bail later that morning.

NORTH FORK

Luke Conti, 33, was charged with DWI on Oct. 28 at 6:14 p.m. after police stopped him for numerous traffic violations on Route 48 in Southold, police said. He was arrested and held for arraignment at Southold Police headquarters.

Carlos Aguilar, 26, of Greenport was charged with DWI on Oct. 30 at 1:20 a.m. after police stopped his vehicle near the Greenport 7-Eleven after a computer check revealed that the license plate on his vehicle did not belong on the vehicle, police said. Upon investigation, Aguilar was found to be intoxicated, police said.

Kimberly Corwin, 37, of Greenport was charged with DWI on Oct. 30 at 2:07 a.m., after police observed her driving east in the westbound lane of Route 48 in Greenport, police said. Corwin failed several roadside sobriety tests at the scene and was found to be intoxicated, police said.

Juan Hernandez-Huertas, 27, of Greenport was charged with DWI, failing to maintain his lane, unlicensed operation, cracked window shield, and failing to submit to a roadside breath test on Oct. 30 at 7:47 p.m., after police responded to a report of a silver four-door sedan driving erratically eastbound on Route 48 in Cutchogue, police said. Hernandez-Huertas was found to be intoxicated and was also found to have an active immigration warrant, police said.
