Police on Monday identified the victim of a as 34-year-old Santiago V. Velay, of Florida, and said that he is still being treated at Stony Brook University Medical Center.
Velay is in "grave condition," according to a statement.
Police said Velay lost control of his Honda motorcycle around 7 p.m. and rear-ended a Jeep Liberty while both were headed north on State Route 114. Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks. Velay was treated at the scene by then airlifted to Stony Brook from via a Suffolk County medevac helecopter.
The Jeep driver was not injured.
During the investigation, closed Ferry Road, part of Route 114, between the Jordan C. Haerter Memorial Bridge entrance and Cove's End Lane.
No criminal charges are expected to be filed, police said.
