An unlicensed Southampton teen was caught on Aug. 31 driving an SUV that was stolen the previous night, according to police.
said a 2003 Land Rover Discovery was reported missing from a driveway on Far Pond Road in Shinnecock Hills during the overnight hours. Then at 6 p.m. an "alert police officer on routine patrol" noticed a vehicle matching the description driving on North Road in Hampton Bays, police said.
After pulling over the Land Rover, checking the license plate and confirming it was indeed the stolen vehicle, the officer placed the 17-year-old driver, Abubaka Muhammad Brown, under arrest, according to police.
Brown was charged with criminal possession of stolen property in the fourth degree, a felony, and also cited for driving without a license.
