Detectives with the Southampton Town Police Department say they have arrested a Kansas electrical lineworker who assaulted a colleague.
According to police, the men got into an altercation at Blue Collar Bar on County Road 39 on Nov. 7 around 11 p.m.
The lineworkers are among a group of employees of Nebraska company L.E. Meyers who were sent to Southampton for repairs in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy, police said.
Detectives interviewed the victim on Nov. 8 at Stony Brook Hospital.
Blake A. Gurtler, 29, of Beattie, Kansas, was arrested Wednesday and charged with assault in the third degree, a misdemeanor.
This is the second assault at Blue Collar Bar in recent months. According to police, on Sept. 8 a 34-year-old Southampton man stepped outside the pub to smoke a cigarette and was approached by three Hispanic men who chased him to the rear of the building next door, knocked him to the ground and beat him. Police said one of the attackers stole $1,500 in cash from his pocket.
One suspect was arrested in that robbery, Efrain Alvarez, 34, of San Antonio, Texas.
