UPDATED: Queens Man Drowns in Trout Pond

According to police, a man drowned approximately 17 feet off the boardwalk of Trout Pond.

UPDATE 12:28 a.m.: A Queens man drowned Saturday afternoon while swimming in Trout Pond, according to .

Police said 26-year-old Tyreef Benston was swimming in the pond when he began to struggle and went under water. He was found about 17 feet from the boardwalk.

Police responded with its Dive and Recovery Unit, along with the aid of  Dive Team, Dive Team, Southampton Town Bay Constable, and .

Police said Benston was visiting friends for the day on the East End. He was dead, according to police, when Sag Harbor Dive Team divers found him 11 feet underwater. Suffolk County Medical Examiner's Office is examining the body for further information.

Original story: Southampton Police are investigating a drowning at Trout Pond.

According to Sgt. Steve Miller, the call reporting a drowning in the Noyac pond came in at 5:10 p.m.

Sag Harbor Fire Department Dive Team, Southampton Police, Southampton Police Dive Team, and Sag Harbor Ambulance are on scene.
