Cops: DWI Suspect Was Wanted for Deportation

Southampton Town police say man pulled over in Bridgehampton Sunday had a warrant against him from Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

A Southampton man pulled over in Bridgehampton on New Year's Day and charged with felony driving while intoxicated turned out to be wanted by Immigration and Customs Enforcement on a deportation warrant, according to police.

said 55-year-old Mesias Martinez was arrested at 8:43 a.m. Sunday after he was stopped for speeding on the Sag Harbor Turnpike. The DWI charge was elevated to a felony because of a DWI conviction Martinez had within 10 years, police explained. He was also charged with a misdemeanor and a felony count of aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

In addition to a warrant from Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Martinez had a warrant out for his arrest for failure to appear in , police said. He was held for local arraignment before being turned over to ICE officials.

This is a concern that perhaps i will get ridiculed for saying but 2012 time for TRUTH. i know several incidents one in partcular. i received a urgent phone call saying that my daughter's close friend was hit by a driver and her and her three children were hurt and he literally left the car in the middle of the Flanders Rd. and ran in the woods. Unfortunately not only was her and all of her children hurt but her car was totalled and long story short she ended up getting fired from her full time job she had recently been hired because she had no transportation to get to work. Honestly i know of several more similiar incidents, but it seems to be a sore topic but this incident hit home and the bottom line the police informed her the car was not legally registered and this put this young mom in a severe financial strain affecting her and her children and it was nothing this young mom could do. It was very challenging and heart breaking trying to help/assist her. Interestingly enough I actually discovered that there were more resources to protect him that resources to help her.

How many FTA Warrants need to be issued before I.C.E. puts `NO RELEASE DETAINERS` on ALL illegal Aliens. They are proven flight-risks. Send them back where they came from before their is a VICTIM to their CRIMES.

Its all a big joke and waste of breath. If you've noticed none of our leaders ever chime in on this subject because they are all held captive by the "VOTES" they won't receive if they dare open their mouths. So basically its to hell with the everday joe shmoe citizens who have to swallow all the crap while they are the ones paying for it. Until our leadership has enough "huevos" to do something about it, nothing will get done and the citizens need to stop being bleeding hearts and rewarding bad behavior.
