Cops: Drunk Driver Hit Police Car; Another Had Near Miss

A few hours after a police car was struck in Bridgehampton, a second drunk driver nearly collided with a police vehicle in Sagaponack, cops say.

On Saturday night at 10:35 p.m. in Bridgehampton, arrested 71-year-old Fredrick M. Friedman, of Manhattan, on drunken driving charges after he hit a marked police vehicle, according to a Police Department statement.

Then just a couple hours later, at 1:33 a.m. Sunday in Sagaponack, Arturo Delgado, 41, of Wainscott, was also charged with driving while intoxicated, after police said he nearly collided with a cop car.

Both of the man were charged with driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor, and failure to maintain lane, an infraction.

Police said Friedman was driving a 2011 BMW sedan on the Bridgehampton-Sag Harbor Turnpike when he turned onto Scuttle Hole Road and struck the cop car, which was stopped at the Scuttle Hole Road stop sign.

"Friedman was found to be operating while in an intoxicated condition ..." police said. "There was minor damage caused to both vehicles and no injuries to either of the operators."

Delgado was driving a 1998 Chevrolet pickup truck eastbound on Montauk Highway in Sagaponack, a failing to maintain his lane of travel, crossing over the double yellow line and almost colliding into a marked police vehicle, according to police. "Once stopped it was determined that Delgado was operating in an intoxicated condition," police said.
