Cops: ATM Stolen From Vestibule Of Princess Diner

Plus, a restaurant employee loses $1,500 in phone scam.

The following incidents were reported by the Town of Southampton Police Department for the week of Dec. 23.

Water Mill

  • Someone stole the ATM from the vestibule of the Princess Diner on Montauk Highway sometime during the night of Dec. 17. According to police, the theft took place after the glass door entry to the diner was forced open any time between 9:30 p.m. and 6 a.m. the next day. Police said the ATM contained around $2,500 in cash at the time of the theft.

Southampton

  • A Mt. Fuji employee was the victim of a phone scam that took him for $1,500 on Dec. 20. According to police, the victim received a call from a man going by the name “Michael Stevens,” who claimed to be calling on behalf of the Long Island Power Authority. “Stevens” told the Mt. Fuji employee that the utility company was in the process of installing new meters and the restaurant would need to fork over $1,500 within the next hour or power to the building would be cut. The victim agreed to pay for the upgrade and was instructed to purchase three Green Dot Money Paks worth $500 each, which the victim did. The victim called back and provided the numbers off the back of the Money Pak cards. When he followed up with LIPA, the electric company told him they were unaware of any upgrades or work needing to be done at that location. He then called Green Dot, who informed him that the money had already been cashed. The victim filed a complaint at Town of Southampton Police Headquarters, who are investigating the crime.
  • A man had three vehicles rummaged through and property stolen from them while they were parked in his driveway on Dec. 17. According to police, the victim said that sometime during the night someone went through each vehicle while they were on his Cedar Point Lane property and stole a pair of Maui Jim sunglasses, worth around $300, a pair of Oakley sunglasses, worth around $150 and a pack of Marlboro Red cigarettes, worth around $10.

  • Someone smashed the rear window of a Southampton man’s car sometime during the night of Dec. 17. According to police the victim called 911 at around 8:15 a.m. to report that he went out to his driveway on Millstone Drive and discovered the rear window of his 2005 Ford Escape had been smashed. He the glass from the window was on the ground and inside the Ford, which was locked. No items were reported missing.
