Southampton Village Police Department is teaming up with Suffolk County Crime Stoppers in asking the public for help to identify a man they say stole a $3,400 piece of jewelry.
Police said a man distracted an employee at Rose Jewelers on Main Street in Southampton then reached into a display case and took an American flag pin made of rubies, diamonds and sapphires. He then fled on foot. The incident occurred on Oct. 11 at 2:45 p.m., and the suspect's face was capture don surveillance video.
The suspect is described as Hispanic, approximately 5 feet, 11 inches tall, between 30 and 35 years old with short black hair and a stocky build.
Crime Stoppers is offering a crash reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to an arrest. Tipsters may anonymously call 1-800-220-TIPS.
