UPDATE: County Road 39A Reopens Following Collision

Drivers injured in head-on crash.

Following a head-on collision between an SUV and a landscaping truck that injured both County Road 39A in Southampton was closed Monday afternoon east of North Main Street and west of David Whites Lane

spokesman Chris Brenner said the injuries are not life threatening and there were no passengers. The accident occurred around 2:18 p.m. according to police, and the road was reopened around 3:45 p.m.

Police said one vehicle drove across the roadway and collided with an oncoming vehicle. "The cause of the crash is under investigation but equipment failure is suspected,"Southampton Town Police Sgt. Michael Joyce said.

EMTs put an oxygen mask and neck brace on the driver of the truck, a young man who was conscious and sitting up in the driver’s seat. It was an truck. The front end of the truck was smashed in, but the SUV was far more damaged. Firefighters worked to extricate the victim and removed the doors from the vehicle completely. They also spread SpeedyDry, an absorbent clay, on liquids leaking from the vehicles.

and responded to take the victims to the hospital. responded as well. Rapid Recovery and Shoreline Towing and Recovery sent wreckers to remove the vehicles.
