Drug Task Force Involved in Car Chase

A police chase March 20 ended in an arrest and multi-jurisdictional search for an additional suspect.

One man was arrested while another got away on foot following a car chase that ended on the in Southampton on March 20, according to authorities and police radio chatter.

Multiple Suffolk law enforcement agencies were involved, including town and state police and the Suffolk sheriff's office K-9 unit. The name of the man who was arrested and the charges he faces have not been disclosed.

Sgt. Todd Spencer said the pursuit and arrest of the suspect, which occurred in conjunction with officers from the East End Drug Task Force, happened at about 11:20 p.m. A passenger in the vehicle reportedly fled the scene, possibly with a gun, and ran into a nearby home.

Since the reservation is part of their jurisdiction, troopers from the New York State police out of Riverside also responded to the scene. According to police, a perimeter was established and the Suffolk County Sheriff's K-9 unit was called in to assist in locating the second suspect. Michael Sharkey, the chief of staff of the sheriff's office, said "one dog and one deputy" assisted in the attempt to capture the second man, who was not apprehended at the time of the incident. State police said they provided backup, but had no further details.

The Suffolk County district attorney's office, which oversees the drug task force, said they could not provide further information without the name of the man who was arrested.
