UPDATE 2: Truck, Bicycle Collide in Water Mill

Cyclist taken to hospital via ambulance.

Police and fire units were called to Water Mill on Tuesday afternoon after a truck and bicycle collided on Montauk Highway.

Bridgehampton Fire Department Ambulance Company loaded the male cyclist onto an ambulance on a stretcher for transportation to . The cyclist appeared conscious and alert, laying with arms crossed and his head and neck immobilized with a brace.

The front fork of the bicycle was broken.

UPDATE:  Southampton Town Police Sgt. Andrew Ficurilli said Tuesday night that the bicyclist was riding eastbound on Montauk Highway in the shoulder when the vehicle was making a left from Mecox Road to go west on Montauk Highway. The cyclist suffered minor injuries.

The accident slowed traffic along Montauk Highway, at the intersection with Mecox Road, but the road was not closed. Traffic was occasionally stopped to allow emergency vehicles to get in and out.

The fire police directed traffic and were also on scene. The accident was cleared by 4:45 p.m.
