Arson Suspected After Chair Found Burning in Road
Burning chair disrupts traffic on County Road 39.
In the pre-dawn hours on March 26, said they discovered an unusual sight in the middle of County Road 39 in Southampton: an office chair that had been doused with gasoline and set aflame was seen burning in the middle of the roadway.
At 5:13 a.m., Chief Rodney Pierson responded to the scene at the intersection of County Road 39 and St. Andrews Road and successfully put out the fire.
According to police, the pavement below the chair was also soaked with gasoline and cops said the incident caused them to divert traffic in the area for at least an hour. The case was referred to the Southampton Town fire marshal's office for further investigation.

Whoever is responsible for lighting the chair on fire faces a charge of fifth-degree arson, a misdemeanor, and disorderly conduct, a violation.
