Bicyclist Hit by Car, Airlifted to Hospital

Accident occurred on North Sea Road, near the intersection of County Road 39.

Update, 4:30 p.m.: Southampton Fire Department confirmed that an accident between a car and bicyclist on Thursday pinned the biker underneath the vehicle, resulting injuries sustined that required a helicopter to transport the individual to the hospital

Southampton Fire, Southampton Volunteer Ambulance, and North Sea Fire Department were on scene in addition to Southampton Town Police.

Capt. Chris Brenner with the Southampton F.D. said that in removing the biker from underneath the car, air bags had to be pumped up to lift the vehicle off the individual.

Sgt. Michael Burns said a call reporting the incident came at 12:20 p.m., and North Sea Road is currently closed down between C.R. 38 and Wiltshire Street. Burns added that the bicyclist was reported to have been pinned under the car.

A landing zone for a helicopter was set up near Sacred Hearts of Jesus and MAry Cemetery. Burns said detectives are investigating the scene.
