Assault with a Belt Charged in Roadside Incident

Sag Harbor man faces felony charge after whipping another man with a metal belt buckle multiple times in Bridgehampton, police say.

A 29-year-old Sag Harbor man told that he was driving on Scuttle Hole Road in Bridgehampton Wednesday when he was followed then forced to stop and attacked with a belt, according to police reports.

The man told police that around 8:48 p.m. a Nissan Titan pickup that was following him sped up, cut in front of him, and stopped. Two men got out of the pickup, and the Sag Harbor man got out of his Nissan Altima, police said. They argued, then one of the men attacked him with the belt, which had a large metal buckle, and hit him across the face and on his torso, legs and arms, police said.

After the men, who police said the victim knew, fled in the pickup truck, he went to a friend's house in East Hampton, where the police were called. His friend took him to "for multiple lacerations and welts," police said.
