A 29-year-old Sag Harbor man told that he was driving on Scuttle Hole Road in Bridgehampton Wednesday when he was followed then forced to stop and attacked with a belt, according to police reports.
The man told police that around 8:48 p.m. a Nissan Titan pickup that was following him sped up, cut in front of him, and stopped. Two men got out of the pickup, and the Sag Harbor man got out of his Nissan Altima, police said. They argued, then one of the men attacked him with the belt, which had a large metal buckle, and hit him across the face and on his torso, legs and arms, police said.
After the men, who police said the victim knew, fled in the pickup truck, he went to a friend's house in East Hampton, where the police were called. His friend took him to "for multiple lacerations and welts," police said.
After an investigation, detectives arrested 32-year-old Miguel Saldivar, also from Sag Harbor, on Thursday at 5 p.m. and charged him with second-degree assault, a felony, and criminal possession of a weapon, a misdemeanor. He was arraigned at and remanded to Suffolk County Jail in Riverside in lieu of $250 bail.
Sgt. Lisa Costa said the second man in the truck was not involved in the assault.
