$40,000 Ring Reported Stolen

Owner told police she does not wear the ring because it is "a bit ostentatious."

A North Sea woman thought her diamond ring on a platinum setting was safe in her closet for months, but when she checked on it recently she discovered it missing, according to police.

said the woman reported Thursday that the ring was stolen, though she initially thought it may have been misplaced when she went looking for it three days earlier. She said she last saw the ring, which she stored in a box on a shelf in her bedroom closet, around Nov. 15.

The platinum ring is valued at $40,000 and has a 6-karat diamond in the center and small diamond clusters on the side. The woman told police she does not wear the ring often because it is “a bit ostentatious,” according to the incident report. A photo was not available, police said.
