2 Cops Struck by SUV During Drug Surveillance

SUV recovered, but suspect still at large, police say.

Two Southampton Village police officers were hit by an SUV that they approached during a drug investigation on Saturday morning, Det. Sgt. Herman Lamison said Tuesday.

The police officers were conducting surveillance of drug sales in the area of Miller Road around 10:10 a.m., according to Lamison. After striking the officers, the driver fled eastbound on Miller Road onto West Prospect Street and Moses Lane, and ran an oncoming vehicle off the road while fleeing westbound on Hill Street, he said.

The police officers were taken to , where they were treated and released, but both will be out of work for a couple weeks after suffering muscular strains and soft tissue damage, Lamison said.

The SUV, a black 2000 Ford Expedition, was recovered on Monday, he said.
