Earlier this week, Patch posted an article reporting that Haute Living magazine named its top picks 5 places to eat Italian Food in the Hamptons. Among their picks were: , Southampton Village; , Westhampton; , Montauk; , Water Mill; and Sant Ambroeus, Southampton Village.
Patch asked our readers if they agree with the picks and they had a lot to say. The following is a round-up of reader's comments. Feel free to add to the conversation by posting your thoughts in the comment section below.
Some commenters were skeptical of the rankings:
jokes, "::Looks at calendar. Doesn't see April 1.:: ???"
asked, "Has Haute Living ever visited the East End? Their rating system doesn't consider Nick & Toni's Italian? ? Villa Paul? Il Capuccino? Media cluelessness is so sad."
questioned, "75 Main for Italian food? Are you nuts? And if La Parmigiana is not on the list, obviously the restaurant critic did not do their homework!"
said, "I've eaten at 75 Main a number of times. Would never have thought it was an Italian restaurant. La Parm and Villa Paul should have made the list before 75 Main."
wrote, "Il Cappuccino in Sag Harbor is not on this list, but 75 Main is? Who wrote this?"
said, "Exactly !!!! Who paid the writers and how much did they get to make the list ????!!!! 75 Main ????? Not."
questioned, "Wha? 75 Main doesn't have an Italian dish on its menu - hamburgers, ribs, salads. And although, without a doubt Robert's is one of the best restaurants in town it would not be considered Italian. What about Tutto il Giorno in Sag for a special evening? Or Cappeletti's for a family night? The only restaurant on your list that makes any sense is: Saint Ambroeus."
Others voiced their own picks for the best Italian:
said, "and in Hampton Bays are by far the best!"
said she agrees La Parmigiano is the best.
said, "Villa Paul in Hampton Bays should have made the list."
Will Kelly said via Facebook, "Casa Basso...the BEST in the Hamptons 20, OMG 30+ years ago + still holds the reigns for taste + delectability!! CHEERs Beto!"
said, " is excellent. Worlds best garlic knots! among other things."
wrote, "Il Capuccino!"
said, "Casa basso hands down best kept secret on long Island."
recommended, "Try Seraffina on North Main Street in East Hampton. You will be VERY pleasantly (and tastefully) surprised."
said, "East to West: Cappalletti, Edgewater, Baby Moon over any on the list."
said, "Jimmy's in Water Mill."
said, "La Parmagiana in Southampton and Il Capuccino in Sag Harbor !!!!!!!!!!! Love them both !!!"
, "Ok, so no Nick & Toni's or Tutto Il Giorno??? There is no list without them. How about Conca D'Oro's dining room, inexpensive and delicious?"
