Tuckahoe School News - Week of Oct. 7-11

During this first week of October Breast Cancer Awareness Month, our school is showing their support by wearing pink on Fridays throughout the month of October.  Also each Friday, our amazing staff will hold a breakfast to raise funds for the Ellen Hermanson Breast Care Center at Southampton Hospital.  This past Thursday (and every Thursday in October), our school nurse, Wendy Meyer, has our students of all ages making rainbow loom pink bracelets that will be on sale during the last week of October to help raise funds for the Ellen Hermanson Breast Care Center at Southampton Hospital.  Tuckahoe’s 5th and 6th grade classes recently returned from their two day long Outdoor Education experience at Shelter Island’s Camp Quinipet.  Students participated in team building challenges and a variety of enriching outdoor education activities.  Fifth graders learned wilderness survival skills including, shelter building and compass orienteering.  They also had the opportunity to take part in interactive lessons on primitive technology, birds of prey and recycling and composting.  Sixth graders challenged themselves with rock climbing and observed Long Island oysters, after an evening of stargazing.  Our 7th Grade Outdoor Educational Trip this year is on Tuesday, October 15th to Thursday, October 17th.  Our 8th Grade Washington D.C. Trip this year is on Wednesday, October 16th to Friday, October 18th.  School Picture Retake Day is Tuesday, October 29th.
