Community Corner

Nov 5th Election

I read with some amusement the endorsements by Conservative Party leaders and a defeated candidate who speak of conservative values yet support a liberal/progressive slate headed by Supervisor Thorne-Holst.  This appears to be the worst kind of political theater.  Their endorsement along with others, smacks at personalities over principles and as a voter I am wary of these political games and those who engage in them.  Linda Kabot has her roots squarely in Southampton, she has heard the concerns of citizens especially west of the canal about the accelerating urbanization of our communities, increasing density in already heavily populated hamlets an issue not generally faced east of the canal which is where the Supervisors money people are, and the increasing burden on infrastructure and school budgets.  As homeowners these costs are very real as all of us can attest to and Ms. Kabot is no exception.  Under Linda Kabot the Town Trustees now marginalized will again become full partners in protecting our precious resources.  Financially, Linda Kabot set about cleaning up the Towns finances and laid the foundation that Supervisor Thorne-Holst wisely choose to build upon.   The campaign for the Town Board has also engaged in the politics of personal destruction.  Blaming Jeff Mansfield for the financial collapse in 2008 is like blaming the school custodian for the bad grades of students, and rather than extolling the virtues of community service by Stan Glinka his rivals attack them.  It is people exactly like Stan Glinka and Jeff Mansfield that a community sorely needs and they should be emulated.  These attacks are meant to distract and anger voters, there is no discussion of the issues, and those making them do not deserve our vote.  The Kabot team has their heads were there feet are in Southampton.  Don’t forget to vote.
