Letter: Don't Let Thiele Think He's King of the End End

Lynda Edwards, chairwoman of the East End Tea Party, is disappointed the Suffolk GOP wouldn't back Fred Thiele's challenger.

When news of , a groan went out from the South Fork. John J. LaValle is letting Thiele run unopposed? ? This just makes no sense

Fred Thiele has let us down with his flip flopping from party to party. He has not saved or created East End jobs or had a hand in reducing taxes. Residents are overburdened with taxes and our children have to move elsewhere to find jobs and affordable homes for their families.

There is a rising tide of discontent with incumbents, who seem to think they're invincible - thanks to spineless leadership at the local, state and national levels.  If we are not willing to support conservative young candidates as our candidates, who will be our future leaders?  Ninety year-old incumbents who don't know when to retire?  It is time for fresh ideas, enthusiastic energy and strong fiscal policies that the younger generation can bring.

OWS and others complain about too much money in campaigns, but sadly it takes money to run a campaign: transportation, media, ads and salaries all need to be paid for.  In addition, Republican and Conservative candidates do not have the unconditional support of the media that Democrats do, so it takes that much more money for those candidates to get their message out.   That said, given the chance to vote for another Abe Lincoln, who came up poor, as so many of our early leaders did, I believe most of us would get behind the new conservatives with necessary funding.

So, I am encouraging everyone to write in on the election ballot the name of Jeremy Brandt this November so that Fred Thiele doesn't continue to think he's King of the East End.

Mr. Blumenthal, Show me where that has ever been done, by any politician of any party. You had your shot and had you been elected you couldn't have done it as a minority member of the assembly. Stop trying to feed unrealistic crap to the voters. We're tired of it.

It has to start somewhere, by someone, and the more "someones" we get elected, the better chance we have of turning things around. Give me the courageous, young, well informed citizens over the old incumbents that make deals behind our backs, set term limits and see things change quickly.

I agree with you Mr. Blumenthal.

You miss the point. The Senate is controlled by the Republican bosses, and the Assembly is controlled by the Democrats. Nothing is going to "start" anywhere. If you don't become a whore for the bosses a) you won't get elected and b) if you do get elected and do something the bosses dont like you won't have their backing for the next election. It is that simple. Sickening as it may be.

You are right. And now with the Supreme Court allowing Corps to fund our government things will only get worse. The two parties are entrenched. What those dopes in the black robes should have done, was outlaw any corp donations and a max of $2000 per individual contributions that are tax deductible. That was the people would have a chance of getting back the government again. Yeah and dont cite case law or any other crap. These are the same morons who threw American citizens in concentration camps and the new crop OK'd the Patriot Act. Real Constitutional? Lord hear my prayer: WE NEED A THIRD PARTY!
