Southampton Resident Barbara Nikolich Dies at 86

Funeral is Friday at 10 a.m.

Barbara Nikolich, of Southampton, died on Monday at .  She was 86.

Born June 30, 1925, in Sag Harbor to Emil and Antoinette Norsic, she moved to Southampton with her family in 1932.  Nikolich was a 1942 graduate of and a 1943 graduate of the Drake School of Business in Jamaica, New York. She was a violinist, French horn player and choral vocalist while at Southampton High. She also played the piano. 

Nikolich joined the choir at in 1941 and remained an active member for over 60 years. She also sang with the Choral Society of the Hamptons for many years. She was an active member in the Columbiettes, the women's auxiliary association of the Knights of Columbus, for more than 50 years having served in various official capacities including district deputy.

Nikolich and her husband were long standing members of the Quarterbackers in support of  Southampton Hospital where she also volunteered for many years in the snack bar.

Nikolich is survived by her husband, Peter C. Nikolich, two sons, Peter E. Nikolich and his wife, Maureen, of Simpsonville, S.C, Robert G. Nikolich and his wife, Chris, of Riverhead; siblings Emil Norsic and his wife, Anna, of Southampton, and Francis Sims, also of Southampton; three grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her sister Maryann Grisnik and a grandson, Brian Nikolich.

Visitation will take place at on Thursday. A mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Roman Catholic Church in Southampton. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Church would be appreciated by the family.
