Beauty Guru Charla Krupp Dies of Breast Cancer

"How Not to Look Old" author was 58.

New York Times best-selling author Charla Krupp, a resident of New York City and Sagaponack, died Monday of breast cancer, The Chicago Tribune reports.

Krupp, 58, grew up in Wilmette, Ill. She , in advance of her 40-year New Trier West High School reunion.

She told Patch that she attended the University of Illinois and was off to New York to pursue her career immediately after. “I didn’t even get to go to my graduation," Krupp told Patch. "I had to be in New York. I won an internship at Mademoiselle Magazine to be one of their college guest editors. I feel like I never really had to look for that first job.”

A series of jobs followed at some of the top magazines for young women including Seventeen. Another step on the ladder was being named editor-in-chief for a new publication called Talk. Unfortunately, it folded after one issue.

Then along came the dream job at Glamour, where Krupp became the first entertainment editor.

“I got to interview everybody I ever wanted to talk to from Madonna to Cher to Stevie Nicks and Joni Mitchell," she recalled. "I really got to shake that cage.” Krupp stayed at Glamour in a variety of positions for 15 years.

She left for then upstart magazine In Style, but her mentor at Glamour invited her back, telling her to name her price. "I came up with the most ridiculous figure and they said 'OK,'” Krupp told Patch.

From there, she went to become the editor-in-chief Eve.com. When the website was sold, she became a millionaire. She said it's how she bought her home in the Hamptons — "The house that Eve bought."
