Mary Schuyler Campbell of Southampton Dies at 73

Retired teacher was involved in dog rescue and a rose enthusiast.

Mary Schuyler Campbell, a longtime Southampton resident, died May 24 at the age of 73 at Stony Brook University Hospital.

The daughter of Robert S. Campbell and Betsy McDavid Campbell, she was born in Greenville, South Caroline. Before moving to Southampton, she had lived in Houston, Texas, and Gaffney, South Carolina.

She was a graduate of St. Mary's Junior College in Raleigh, North Carolina and Mount Vernon Junior College in Washington, D.C., and received her Bachelor of Arts from Converse College in Spartanburg, South Carolina.

She became a teacher at Greenville High School and earned  a master's degree in education from Furman University.

She was a member of the Jr. League of Greenville, South Carolina, Houston, Texax, and Southampton, New York. Other interests included Westminister Kennel Club and Dog Show, dog rescue, and the SPCA. She was an avid gardener and rose enthusiast.

She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Schuyler Campbell; her sister, Jane Campbell Hinton; nephews, Robert Campbell Scholl and Vincent de Paul Charles Scholl II; and a niece, Ann Marie Reinhold.
