Jean Zirinis of Southampton Dies at 81

Zirinis had the highest grades of any woman graduating from a U.S. law school in 1957.

Jean P. Zirinis, of Southampton, N.Y., and Longboat Key, Fla., died on Saturday at at the age of 81.

Born in New York City, she met her husband, Basil, at NYU Law School where they both graduated with law degrees in 1957. At the time of her graduation, she had the highest grades of any female graduating from law school that year in the entire country.

They were married 54 years at the time of her death.

In addition to her husband, Zirinis is survived by sons Basil Zirinis III and Ian Zirinis, sister Arlene Ritz Ojalvo, and grandchildren, Alexandra, Basil IV and Nicholas George Zirinis.

The family will receive friends on Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. at in Southampton Village with parish prayer service officiated by the Rev. Mike Vetrano beginning at 3 p.m. A private cremation will follow.
