George Allison Andrews, who served the village in the 1980s, passed away last week at the age of 88.

The funeral home provided the following obituary, which was edited for style purposes.

Former Southampton Village Clerk George Allison Andrews passed away peacefully on Nov. 11 at Brookhaven Memorial Hospital. He was 88.

Andrews was born in Chicago, IL on June 15, 1925. He served in the Air Force and enjoyed traveling throughout Europe with his favorite destination being Paris, France. He had an adventuresome spirit and a quick wit with a passion for painting.

Earlier in his life, Andrews served as President of Blue Cross Blue Shield, leaving to settle into the place of his dreams – Water Mill. He served as the Southampton Village Clerk from 1981 to 1989.

Andrews also lived in Missouri, North Carolina and Florida. It was in Florida that he found the love of his life, Frances. Until his recent passing, the two have been inseparable. His wife survives and resides at the Cedar Lodge Nursing Home in Center Moriches.

He had two sisters, Judith Arnold (dec.) and Susan Galloway as well as two brothers, John (dec.) and Jerry (dec.) Andrews. Having no children of his own, Andrews had two nephews, John Arnold and John Galloway and five nieces, Joni Bratney, Cathy Baker, Paula Dondale, Cora Duncan and Kelley Arnold. There are also countless people in the Water Mill area who would count George and Fran as part of their families as well.

Visiting hours will take place Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2013, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Brockett Funeral Home in Southampton. A Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, Nov. 21 at 9:30 a.m. at the Basilica Parish of Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary. The interment with military honors will follow at Calverton National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to The Southampton Cultural Center at P.O. Box 5008, Southampton, 11969.
