Former NY Times Publisher Sulzberger Dies at Southampton Home

Arthur Ochs Sulzberger saw the media company through change and trying times.

Arthur Ochs Sulzberger, the former publisher of The New York Times and former chairman and CEO of The New York Times Company, died on Saturday at his Southampton home following a long illness, The Times reports.

He was 86.

His tenure at The Times spanned from 1963 to 1997. He is remembered as a fervent supporter of the First Amendment and the independence of the press.
