Douglas Bormuth of Southampton Dies at 82

Visitation is Monday and the funeral is Tuesday.

Douglas L. Bormuth, of Southampton, died at Thursday at the age of 82.

Bormuth was born Dec. 9, 1929, to Harry P. and Helen Bormuth (nee Libby). He graduated from in 1948. After graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Navy for one year. He graduated from Rider College in 1953 with a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting. Upon graduation he was hired by the accounting firm of Peat, Marwich, Mitchel & Co.(now KMPG LLC) in their New York City office. In 1957 he joined his father’s accounting firm where he continued until his death.

Bormuth was an active member of the Southampton Rotary Club for 30 years and served as treasurer for seven years. He was also longtime founding member of the and served as recording secretary for 32 years. Bormuth was also secretary-treasurer of the Southampton Cemetery Association from 1982 until his death.

Bormuth was pre-deceased by his wife Jeanne (nee Hildreth) and his brother Robert. He is survived by his son, Douglas Jr., and his wife, Nancy, and their daughters, Stephanie and Robin; his daughter, Barbara Lynn Bennett, and her children, Loren James III, Dylan and Lily Bennett; his sister Janet Snider, of Fairport, and six nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Brockett Funeral Home of Southampton. A funeral service will take place Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Brockett’s. The interment with military honors will follow at Edgewood Cemetery in Bridgehampton.
