Church Volunteer Eileen Kenna of Southampton Dies

She was an active member of the Basilica Parish of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary as a social outreach volunteer.

The following obituary was posted on behalf of the Kenna family.

Eileen (Gibbons) Kenna of Southampton died last week at Stony Brook University Hospital. She was 77 years old.

She was born Dec. 27, 1935 in Corona, Queens and moved to Southampton in 1998.

Eileen was an active member of the Basilica Parish of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary in Southampton Village as a social outreach volunteer, and also worked part time in the parish office.

She was a 1954 graduate of St. Agnes Academic High School in College Point and later received a secretarial certificate from Katherine Gibbs School.

She married John F. Kenna in 1961 and they lived in Astoria, Queens until John died in 1998.

Eileen was the mother of Margaret and Robert Skibbens of Allentown, Pa., Frank and Stacey Kenna of Forest Hills and Kara and David Reich-Hale of Babylon.

She also leaves behind six grandchildren, Joseph and Erin Skibbens, Connor and Jordan Kenna, and Donovan and Amelia Reich-Hale.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her name to the Basilica Parish of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary, Rogers Memorial Library or the Susan G. Komen foundation for breast cancer survivors.
