No life form can survive without water. No food can be grown without water. Remember the earthquake we felt here in New York last August? Though its epicenter was several states away, there is powerful debate and evidence linking that earthquake and many other earthquakes to the "natural gas" technology known as, “fracking,” in places such as Ohio, where we have no previous history of earthquakes. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/04/21/fracking-shutdown-earthquakes-arkansas_n_851930.html
How natural is “Natural Gas”? When we see the beautiful images in commercials on TV, telling us how environmentally clean and safe “natural gas” is, nothing could be farther from the truth. Hydraulic Fracturing, coined, “fracking,” by Halliburton Corporation, means drilling 6,000 – 8,000 feet into the Earth, and setting up cement piping, the same kind that failed in drill pipes used BP Deep Horizon Gulf of Mexico disaster, that has, to date, not been fully cleaned up.
Millions of gallons of water per drill site (coming from local water sources such as rivers and aquifers) require over 600 different “proprietary” (Halliburton will not disclose) chemicals that are force-injected deep into the earth, and the tectonic plates there, are exploded, to make “fractures” that allow the gas trapped below these plates to leech, leak and be captured by these pipes, and extracted up the pipes for later processing. The key words here are “leech” and “leak,” as these as yet undisclosed chemicals can, in no way, be controlled or cleaned up, once they are unleashed, 6,000 – 8,000 feet into the Earth. Also key: “FRACKING” is exempt from Clean Air and Clean Water regulation. (http://www.watertowndailytimes.com/article/20110615/OPINION02/306159986/ ) So, in the case of “accidents,” health damage, water contamination...guess who pays? Clue: NOT HALLIBURTON.

Damage to water tables, rivers, aquifers, soils and wells contaminated by Fracking is IRREVERSIBLE ONCE IT IS STARTED. There is no technology that can or does clean and repair it.
Is this something we are willing to take on in New York? It is the ultimate lose-lose-lose situation, and the decisions and deals are being made right now.
Governor Cuomo WANTS TO OPEN NEW YORK (5 COUNTIES TO START - BUT THE WHOLE STATE WILL THEN BE OPENED FOR FUTURE FRACKING) FOR FRACKING. Thousands of fracking licenses have already been sold in New York, awaiting approval.
New York has one of the best, most pristine water supplies in the WORLD, which is EXACTLY WHERE THE FRACKING WILL START - THE MARCELLUS SHALE in the Adirondack Mountains. Once our New York water and air is CONTAMINATED - WE WILL NEVER GET IT BACK TO CLEAN WATER AND AIR AGAIN. EVER.
No life form of life can survive and no food can be grown without water.

Hey, We've All Gotta Eat!
I wonder if I could set up a rig in my backyard, inject my own "proprietary" chemicals under 'my' property and not anger the neighbors a bit. How is this possible that they can not be required to list the chemicals they are pushing underneath leased land all over the state? I suspect powerful lobbyists at work to push a short sighted and deply harmful energy policy to enrich a few the full cost to be borne by the many for years to come if we don't act to stop this. Smells like a whole lot of methane to me. Terry Daniels
