Ready to enjoy Agent Orange (2,4-D), in our GMO (genetically modified) corn flakes, chips, cereals, breads, and all things corn that we eat? This is the next phase of genetic engineering of corn plants, 2,4-D, an herbicide more deadly than herbicide RoundUp, which is now, failing due to weeds that have grown so resistant to it they are now called “superweeds.” A component of the deadly chemical, Agent Orange, used to defoliate Vietnam, (2,4-D) will be inserted into the DNA of corn cells so that when the plant is growing, every cell contains 2,4-D, so that it may be sprayed with 2,4-D, and not die. What happens to us when we eat foods made with these crops? Google a few of those images — infertility, reproductive disorders, deformities, are just for starters.
Do you believe you have the right to know if what you eat is GMO (aka GE, genetically engineered)? Want these food ingredients labeled? So do over 97 percent of Americans! Feb. 27, 2012 is the deadline for public comments on the 2,4-D GMO corn, so have your say today!
About 84 percent of the corn grown in the U.S. is GMO. About 90 percent of the soy grown here is too. Several U.S. states this year are considering GMO labeling bills, including a California initiative.
Meanwhile, many experimental GMO crop trials are, or have been, underway in Washington state, and Hawaii, for GMO apples, alfalfa, barley, beets, corn, safflower, sugar beet and wheat. For a list of trials, see www.isb.vt.edu/search-release-data.aspx and click the box "Location" for Washington, then "Submit."
