Sweeteners: 'Truth About GMOs,' Feb. 6 Hampton Bays Library Food Film-Talks

How Many Sweeteners are Genetically Modified? 61 Nations Restrict or Ban GMOs - but not the USA. Do you think we have the right to know what we eat? Let's talk...

Hey Fellow Eaters! FILM & FOOD SERIES!!

How can it be that most of the sweeteners in the foods we eat are now genetically modified (GMO)? Let's talk all about the many kinds of sweeteners in the foods we eat, and how all these work in our bodies...this Wednesday!

Over 80% of what we find on our grocers (even Whole Foods, & Trader Joe’s, too) shelves in genetically modified. How do we know which are and are NOT GMO? The FDA & USDA do not label GMOs though 90% of Americans polled want them labeled. Most Americans want to choose for themselves whether or not to eat them. 61 Nations mandate GMO Labeling or outright Bans on GMOs BUT NOT THE USA (or CANADA).

GREAT NEWS! New York is one of 37 states now working on legislation to get GMOs labeled:  HOUSE BILL NO A3525 New York State Right to Know and SENATE BILL NO  S3908 New York State Right To Know are up in January 2013's Legislative Session, and our local Assemblyman, Fred Thiele is a co-sponsor! Let's talk about how we can get this bill passed and become the first state to label GMOs by law! We have the right to know what is in our food.

Join us for a lively film screening & discussion led by Kathleen Furey, certified GMO (“genetically modified organisms”) Educator, in this Healthy Food series, "The truth about GMOs and sweeteners in our food.

As a result, the Washington-based bank said it is stepping up support for efforts to curb climate change and to help the world adapt to it. "Urgent action is needed to not only reduce greenhouse gas emissions, but also to help countries prepare for a world of dramatic climate change and weather extremes," World Bank President Jim Yong Kim said in a statement."
