A LOT is happening with our food and MOST OF IT is being kept secret from us.

Over the 2012 year-end holidays, while most of us were chillin' with friends and family, the FDA quietly approved GMO (genetically modified organism) salmon, after several years of controversy! We have only a few days to speak out to prevent it from being released into our oceans. Once it reaches our supermarkets WE WILL NEVER KNOW BECAUSE IT — LIKE ALL GMO FOOD IN THE USA — WILL NOT BE LABELED.

NY State has a GMO Labeling Bill that will come up in the 2013 legislative session. We will discuss what we can do to assure that it is voted on and passed. Each week we learn about and discuss our food, why we need to know about and label GMO's, and protect our food supply, by understanding the serious health risks these unlabeled, untested foods (found on @ 80% of our grocery shelves), pose to our families, and community.                                       

Join Kathleen Furey, certified GMO (“genetically modified organisms”) Educator in this series on GMOs and the heavy use of artificial sweeteners (most of which are also GMO) in our food supply, and learn what we can do to eat as healthfully as possible.

Stop the worst thing since genetically engineered foods were created.

Genetically Engineered Salmon

The biotechnology industry has genetically engineered a fish that grows at twice the normal rate, so it can get to market sooner and make more money, faster.

The FDA doesn’t even do its own testing of genetically engineered animals: it relies on information provided by the company that wants approval. And because GE salmon are being considered as a new animal drug, the process isn’t focused on what happens to people who eat genetically engineered animals. So on top of the health concerns posed by raising salmon in crowded factory fish farms that rely on antibiotics and other chemicals, the FDA could be adding the unknown risks of GE salmon to the mix.

It’s up to us to demand that President Obama direct the FDA on this matter. Learn more and take action.
