Be Real...Let Yoga Help You

A yoga class, for me, is so much more than just stretching and toning and creating strength in the body. It's about people, about community, about life lessons, and TRUTHS.

I stand here after teaching a yoga class with the feeling of being compelled to write from the heart.

A yoga class, for me, is so much more than just stretching and toning and creating strength in the body. It's about people, about community, about life lessons, and TRUTHS.

When I see what yoga does for those who come to class, I am overwhelmed with gratitude. I just spent time with a student after class, whom I consider to be a dear friend in this life. The context of our discussion together is not what matters to me in this moment...but it's more about the connection we have as human beings on this earth, in this moment.

This beautiful friend/yogini/student is more my teacher in many ways. Thank you to my friend for reminding me of what yoga is...and what it always should be. Thank you for reaching out to me and being YOU...being REAL.

Tonite we spoke about lots of different topics during class, as per usual (latest TV shows, where is good do go for your Mom's Day Gifts [plug for lol], and what things we all enjoy about pumping our glutes in all the different ways - thank you Jackie!

One topic I shared was about being REAL and not being afraid to be who you are. Speaking for myself (and that's all I can speak for), I tend to worry about how I may have offended someone or how I might look if I do or say something. But, what about the THOUGHT...just a thought...that BEING ourselves...who we truly ARE...is such an important part of our HEALING process in this life. What has worrying about anything EVER gotten anyone?

Asking the questions...

  • who am I? Where I have been does not need to define who I am today, nor does where I am headed.
  • How do I SEE myself?
  • How can I love myself more TODAY? Just TODAY.
  • How does it FEEL to be true to myself? Can I breathe easier?
  • Then, noticing the trickling affect of the breath...what does that easier breath translate into the body?

Life is so interesting and I truly wanted to blog from the heart tonite after the wonderful feelings I am left with, as always, from all the people and community surrounding my yoga practice. I am grateful for the REMINDERS of all the blessings AND of all the blessings in my life. Namaste.

I totally agreed with what you said last night and love that you blogged about it. Often peopel forget how much they hurt themselves by self judgement. I have often thought wow if I took care of my self half as much as I do the others in my life how would that feel? I feel guilty about being "selfish" no more, I have fallen in love with myself again and my glutes.

I agree with Jackie's comments 100% and am glad that Kara blogged about our last night class. It gave us all a chance to reflect and think about our innerselves and the tendancy to beat ourselves up. I too have fallen back in love with myself and all my little quirks

I love both you girls - glutes, quirks, comments, and all! I especially love the parts about you both falling back in love with yourselves. So great. Thank you for sharing!
