Southampton Hospital Receives $30K from 2013 Hamptons Marathon

Hamptons Marathon yielded the largest field in its seven-year history, leading to a total of $75,000 in donations to area organizations.

Each year, Hamptons Marathon makes donations to support East End organizations, and last week it made its largest donation to date — over $75,000.

The seventh annual Hamptons Marathon and Half Marathon, held on Sept. 28 and starting at the Springs School, drew the largest field yet with 2,500 runners.

Hamptons Marathon donated $30,000 to both Southampton Hospital and Project MOST, a nonprofit after-school program in Springs and East Hampton.

The races also support the Springs School, the Springs School PTA’s kindergarten to third grade extracurricular swimming program, the East Hampton Day Care Learning Center and East Hampton Youth Football.

The Hamptons Marathon has now donated over $350,000 since the marathon's inception.

A small donation was also made to support runners affected by the Boston Marathon bombing last April through the One Fund Boston.

"The primary source of these donations were the runners’ race fees, but none of this could have been accomplished without the support of the Hamptons Marathon’s primary sponsors, JetBlue and Equinox Fitness as well as the generous support of the race’s local partners, friends and volunteers who give their time and expertise year after year," the organizers Diane Weinberger and Amanda Moszkowski, said in a statement.
