Public Water Comes to Areas of Bridgehampton, North Sea

More than 10,000 feet of new pipe was installed from Eastport to Springs as part of eight water main extension projects that the Suffolk County Water Authority completed earlier this month. 

In the eastern part of Southampton Town, projects included 3,150 feet on Barn Lane in Bridgehampton, which includes 37 initial services, 1,910 feet on Whalebone Landing in North Sea, and 584 feet on Parrish Road in North Sea.

“These pipes will add to our growing infrastructure on the East End and provide safe and constantly tested water to dozens of new customers,” Jeff Szabo, the water authority chief executive officer, said in a statement.

Having public water, which is tested by the New York State Department of Health and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, also means increased water pressure and the availability of nearby hydrants, which improves fire protection and may lower homeowner’s insurance, according to the water authority. Public water is usually accessible during a storm, while private wells stop working when the electricity is out. 

The water authority serves about 1.2 million residents.

The extensions will initially provide high-quality, treated water services for close to 300 locations, but it will lead to SCWA's ability to service significantly more residents and communities moving forward, the water authority said.

The completed extensions each took a few days to complete, and were done throughout the months of October and November.
