Who We Are:
GSAR is a non profit organization that was founded to improve the lives of homeless and abandoned animals in communities that either can not or will not provide humane and responsible care for these innocent voiceless creaters.
Michelle Neufeld Montak, Founder and Executive Director, Has devoted the past 4 years of her life to rescuing animals. Her experience includes the rescue and adoption of approximately 1,600 animals to date from high-kill facilities across the country.
Nancy Updegrave, Safe Haven Manager and Community Initiatives Coordinator, Has worked as a veterinary technician for 11 years and also owned and operated a training/boarding facility for 15 years.
What We Stand For:
Gimme Shelter is a foster-based rescue. We do not have a facility or "shelter". All our dogs are cared for by our network of loving foster families.
All adopters are well screened prior to adoption. GSAR checks references and conducts a home visit prior to approving applicants.
These dogs find themselves in dire situations when they enter a high kill shelter. It is GSAR's goal to find amazing homes for all the animals we rescue to ensure they live out the rest of their lives with love and dignity.
Our Mission:
*Rescue adoptable animals that will otherwise be euthanized in high kill shelters and provide them with Safe Haven.
*Develop and Launch low or no cost Spay and Neuter options in our target communities.
*Establish educational programs and other broader solutions to improve the lives of animals.
*All animals rescued by GSAR from shelters are spayed/neutered, given age appropriate vaccines, and any other medical attention that they need.
