RESTORING THE TROMPE L'OEIL MURAL AT OLD WHALERS'

Geoffrey Steward of International Fine Arts Conservation Studio will present the details of the planned restoration of the historic trompe l'oeil mural behind the pulpit of Old Whalers' Church. A feature of the original 1844 building, the mural was repainted and painted over several times before its current version--not historically accurate--was created. Mr. Steward will describe the process to begin this week, of taking samples from layers of the wall for analysis, and the methods by which he plans to restore the painting to something closer to the original next spring.
