Organist John Walker Presents First Recital at Old Whalers'

John Walker, world-renowned church musician and concert organist and onetime music minister at The Riverside Church in Manhattan, will present his first recital on the historic 1844 Erben pipe organ at Old Whalers'. Among other pieces, he will play a Mendelssohn sonata composed around the time the organ was built and conclude his program with "Concert Variations on The Star-Spangled Banner," which features a display of virtuosity for the organ pedal board. A reception to meet the artist will follow the performance. Tickets at the door: $10 adults, $5 children 12 and under. Proceeds benefit the Community House Fund at Old Whalers', established to maintain the facilities used by many community groups that serve several hundred people each week. Contributions to CHF are tax-deductible.
