Free Film - "SHORED UP"

Controversial “SHORED UP” Film at CAC-West Meeting
Director Ben Kalina Looks at How Seaboards are Destroyed
The Citizen Advisory Committee -West (CAC-West) will replace its regular monthly meeting on January 9, 2014, at 7:00 PM at the Westhampton Free Library in Westhampton Beach with a free showing of the recently released and critically reviewed  film “Shored Up” produced and directed by Ben Kalina. This meeting, as all Southampton CAC meetings, is open to the public and will begin at 7:00 PM.
In her recent review in the Village Voice, Daphne Howland said, “This is a sober look at how seaboards are vulnerable to a rise in ocean levels, made worse by storms and massively worse by massive storms. Our seemingly innate desire to hang on to disappearing sand, which is essentially what our barrier islands are, is beautifully illustrated by the film's cinematography and historical footage.Kalina has explored what he calls the "intersection of science, culture, and the environment" before, and started this documentary about the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' beach replenishment project along the New Jersey shore before Sandy shoved civilization around and set this story in sharp relief.
That's Thursday, January 9 2014 at 7:00 PM for the free showing of “Shored Up” hosted by CAC-West at the Westhampton Free Library.
The Citizens Advisory Committee concept was established in 1996 by then Southampton Town Supervisor Fred Thiele to represent those hamlet areas in not covered by any village government. There are ten CACs in the Town representing hamlets both east and west of the canal. Each focuses on local hamlet issues it wishes to bring to the Town Board's attention. They will form coalitions with other CACs around issues that affect more than one hamlet area.
