HELPING JHENNY

Jhenny Bueno Arias is a single mother of four, an immigrant from Ecuador living in Sag Harbor and a high-energy employee at the village’s 7-Eleven, where she is known to playfully “chase” children around the convenience store.

At about 7:30 p.m. on January 15, while walking home from work, the 36-year-old was struck by a Jeep while crossing Brick Kiln Road and had to be airlifted to Stony Brook University Medical Center. No charges were filed.

Although in stable condition now, Ms. Arias, who lacks health insurance, will likely spend several more months in the hospital, as she undergoes surgery and recovers from her many injuries, which, according to friend Julie Adamski, include four broken ribs, a broken leg, a shattered pelvis, a broken femur—which, in turn, broke her knee—as well as a punctured lung and a lacerated liver.
