 Southampton  See map

The 2012 Pumpkin Carving Contest will be held on Monday October 29th at 5pm in front of the Bridgehampton Community House.

A few of the returning categories are pulp politico, freaky facelift, mythic monstrosity and farmstand freakout. New categories include wicked wiccan, totem of terror and Rumpelfrumpkin.

There is no age limit on theme categories.  For the freestyle category, there is an all ages category and a 12 and younger category.

Admission and entries are free; there is a maximum of three entries per person, and one per category.

If you are setting up a scene or an idea with multiple pumpkins and plan to win we suggest setting it up on a board that can be carried to the winners table.

Judging starts at dusk/dark so don’t be too late. All entries should be taken home after the contest. Please bring a candle for each of your entries. Carving must be done at home. No carving is permitted at the event.

Prizes range from $20 to $250.

There will be a puppet show by Liz Joyce and Goat on a Boat Theatre, and cider and doughnuts provided by The Milk Pail.

Check http://blog.bridgehamptonlions.com for rain date information.

Any idea you plan to carve should be considered for its glow factor — that’s what makes this such an interesting art form. A little extra consideration given to how the light plays in your design is what the judges are looking for. It may look nice or even unassuming during the day — it’s the transformation into the evening that really counts!
