Conversations with Barbaralee Diamonstein-Spielvogel featuring Roy Furman

Southampton Arts Center presents a series of conversations moderated by Barbaralee Diamonstein-Spielvogel, a writer, activist, television interviewer and producer, known for her involvement in the fields of art, design, architecture and public policy. Ms. Diamonstein-Spielvogel will be joined by luminaries in the fields of theater, publishing and architecture.

Diamonstein-Spielvogel, author of 20 books,curator, interviewer,civic activist , and former White House Assistant was the first Director of Cultural Affairs for New York City, and its longest serving Landmarks Preservation Commissioner, serving under four New York City Mayors. She has also been a Member of the NYC Cultural Affairs Commission, where she was Chair/Founder of the Mayor's Awards of Arts and Culture. She is currently the Chair of the Historic Landmarks Preservation Center (since 1995) and the NYC Landmarks50 Alliance (since 2012), and was recently reappointed for another 4 year term as the Vice Chair of the N.Y. State Council on the Arts. In 2013, she was elected a Democratic National Committeewoman from New York State for a four-year term. Diamonstein-Spielvogel was appointed by President Ronald Reagan to the Board of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. In 1992, she was appointed to the United States Commission of Fine Arts by President Bill Clinton, and was the first woman Vice Chair of the CFA. President Barack Obama named her a Commissioner of the American Battle Monuments Commission.A founding director of the HighLine, in 2010 Diamonstein-Spielvogel was appointed a founding director of the Trust for the National Mall in Washington D.C. Diamonstein-Spielvogel has been the recipient of many honors and awards including the John Jay Medal for Service for her lifetime contribution to the arts, architecture, and public policy.

Roy Furman is Vice Chairman of Jefferies LLC and Chairman of Jefferies Capital Partners, a group of private equity funds. He was previously Vice Chairman of ING Barings for two years following a one-year stint as Chief Executive Officer of Livent, a leading North American theater owner and producer.

In 1973, Mr. Furman co-founded Furman Selz, an international investment banking, institutional brokerage, and money-management firm. He served as President and CEO until 1997, when the firm was sold to ING. For decades, he has been a respected Wall Street analyst and investment banker involved with the entertainment industry, following and advising a wide range of public and private companies.
