Bill Pell ran unopposed in the Southampton Fire District election to replace district Chairman Robert Grisnik, the proprietor of Southrifty Drug in Southampton Village, who did not seek re-election. In the North Sea Fire District, Richard White and Michael Behringer ran unopposed, gathering 28 votes each, with no write-ins cast.

Plastic Bag Ban Hearing Voted Down: A plastic bag ban for the town hit a major political road block Tuesday night. The town board will on the issue after a resolution to set the hearing failed by a vote of 3-2, with Councilmen Chris Nuzzi and Jim Malone and Councilwoman Nancy Graboski voting “no.” The Republican-Conservative troika axed the resolution after discussing how efforts for an educational pilot program, rather than a regulatory ban, foundered earlier this year.

Town's Solar Panel Process Not in Compliance with State: The Southampton Town Board has approached Long Island Power Authority’s solar panel regulations with trepidation — partly because all the town requires homeowners to obtain before installing a solar system is an electrical permit.
