Vector Control to Spray Marshes Thursday
Several saltwater marshes across Southampton Town will be treated with pesticide to kill mosquito larvae.
A helicopter will sweep over saltwater marshes in Southampton Town on Thursday to spray pesticides over mosquitoes' breeding grounds.
The targeted marsh sites include Jagger Lane in Westhampton, Moniebogue Bay in Westhampton Beach, the village of West Hampton Dunes, Meadow Lane in Southampton Village, and the hamlet of North Sea.
The pesticide application will be conducted by the Suffolk County Department of Public Works’ Division of Vector Control using the larvicide Vectobac 12As.

According to Vector Control, Vectobac 12As contains naturally occurring bacteria.
"The product is registered by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and is applied in accordance with the required state and federal permits," reads a county statement.

The county is not recommending that residents take any precautions before the spraying, saying that human exposure is unlikely and the larvicide has no significant human toxicity.
If spraying cannot be completed on Thursday due to weather, the work will continue on Friday, according to the county.
