Train Service Restored Between Speonk and Montauk

Hill Station Road in Southampton remains closed.

The Long Island Rail Road has restored train service east of Speonk following when a truck became wedged underneath the overpass.

The first eastbound train Sunday left Penn Station at 7:45 a.m. The first westbound train of the day is the 3:35 p.m. from Montauk, scheduled to arrive at Jamaica at 6:10 p.m. and Penn Station at 6:39 p.m.

To get the tracks operational, LIRR workers shored up a girder that was extensively damaged Friday afternoon when the flat-bed truck could not clear the height restriction of the train trestle at Hill Station Road in Southampton. The LIRR is continuing to assess a permanent repair plan for the bridge, spokesman Sam Zambuto said Sunday.

Before the temporary repair was made, train service was replaced by buses.

Hill Station Road, between Club Drive and McGregor Drive, will be closed for three to four weeks as a safety precaution as repairs are made to the train trestle, Southampton Town police said. The Southampton Town Highway Department barricaded the road and Metropolitan Transportation Authority personnel will be present to ensure no vehicles pass, according to police.
